Dear Neighbours,
According to the latest Melbourne flood maps, here in the Devon-Miller St area our homes face severe inundation in the event of an extreme flood event as we sit over an old Merri Creek tributary, a natural path for water flow.
The red strip you see on the latest flood map is the Devon/Miller junction and it could in extreme conditions experience water levels of 7 metres, a really frightening prospect for residents.
Added to this concern is the current poor state of the stormwater drain on this corner: narrow and always full of debris, pooling water after every rainfall. This drain needs an urgent overhaul to cope with current and future needs. I have contacted the council authority and they agree that remedial work needs to be done here but it sits in a long queue. They also advised that a strong petition may well expedite action on this.
Would you please help me petition Darebin Council here online and independently by phone to upgrade this drain as a matter of urgency to protect and mitigate against our common flood risk.
Thankyou! Bronwyn at 5 Devon St (drop in to chat too!)
Live also nearby . Pls upgrade our drain system. Our house is next to the drain hole and our side of the road lower than the hole so always water pool in front of to drive way too.
