We, the undersigned, wish to express our disapproval of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council's plans to designate Fish Island South for industrial use. We are strongly against the designation of Fish Island South for industrial development and the proposed waste management facility as outlined in the emerging Fish Island Area Action Plan. We are convinced the Council's plans are flawed as they fail to recognise the needs of the existing community, which includes many young families. We wish to live in a safe and healthy environment, appropriate for residential and mixed-use developments already present in Fish Island South. In Fish Island, we have always lived amongst dilapidated post-industrial premises as the Council changed the planning policy shortly after the developments we live in had been built 6-7 years ago. The current environment of Fish Island South feels incoherent, unfinished and encourages anti-social behaviour. This is an opportunity for the Tower Hamlets Council to rectify the mistakes from the past. We request the designation and zoning of the Fish Island be revisited. We request an alternative area for the waste management facility and other industrial uses be identified by the Council in a more appropriate location in the borough. We want the planning strategy for Fish Island South to encourage the growth of the existing community and not go against it.
