The Festival of Lights is a long time holiday tradition at the Bagnall elementary school. The students, staff and families look forward to this wonderful event each year. It represents so many cultures, religions and beliefs. Each grade level has a unique presentation in the show, which has become a coming of age tradition. Especially for our graduating 6th graders, who wait until their last year to do a very special tribute to the Chinese New Year. If you feel strongly about keeping in the traditions of our school, please sign and let our voices be heard.

I was walking past the school yesterday and thinking about how quiet the hallways feel without the holiday rehearsals starting yet. People keep sending me messages about their own memories of those 6th grade tributes which really confirms that we are fighting for something that actually matters to this community.

I honestly never really imagined this would blow up like it has because sitting here watching the numbers climb is just surreal and reminds me of how much this school actually means to all of us. I keep looking at the photos of past performances in my files and thinking about the kids who are just waiting for their turn to shine. It feels like we have a real shot at keeping these traditions exactly where they belong.

This celebration is so inclusive I can't imagine them not doing it. It helps the kids learn about a lot of other celebrations.
The Festival of Lights is so much more than just entertainment and a wonderful Holiday Tradition. Ms Medley works so hard to make it so diverse, teaching cultural diversity and acceptance as well as a great appreciation of music and self expression. It exposes our children to the knowledge of how many different people celebrate many different Holidays, not to mention that the Dragon/Chinese New Year performance is a right of passage for graduating 6th graders. These life lessons are just as important as STEAM. Children need this balance. Don't take away their great memories!
Kids don't get a chance to be kids. They are in such a rush to grow up, opportunities to have them be part of traditions such as The Festival of Lights brings so much joy to kids and adults alike and should be an honored tradition that is maintained. If suppprt is needed by the community to make this possible this year I would hope the school and those potentially proposing it be cancelled take a minute and ask what else can be done to have the festival this year.
The Holiday Season won't be complete without the Festival of Lights! Perhaps a compromise? After school hours practice? Help for Ms. Medley?
Any decent science technology and engineering program benefits from the balance of liberal and performing arts. This balance is what truly drives innovation. To eliminate this type of cultural and performing art experience lessens the quality of a comprehensive "World Class" program. And also it is at this age when our children are most free to exercise their creative expression before the barriers of academic intensity, grading, and higher levels of expectation enter their lives in middle and high school.
Such a wonderful tradition.

The arts should be as important as the other areas of study for a STEAM school. Please let us help figure out how to keep the Festival of Lights at Bagnall School.
