The student government senate voted to pass the initiative today. Calculators will be available for library checkout and the shuttle tracking app development is moving forward as planned. We will monitor the implementation phase to ensure these resources are accessible for the upcoming semester.

The Student Government Executive Branch proposed a bill that would allow course-required calculators to be available for check-out at the library. This would save students time and an extra expense in addition to adding a more competitive university with more resources for our students. The bill also included a line item that would fund a mobile app for smartphones. This mobile app would feature a live tracking system for all of our shuttles. We currently have about 4500 students living on campus who can benefit from this initiative plus commuter students who may also utilize the shuttles to avoid parking problems. Please sign to have this bill resubmitted for a potential majority vote. We, the undersigned, urge the Student Government Senate of Florida Gulf Coast University to reconsider the bill and pass it for the benefit of the entire student body

Updates

September 19, 2013

I met with members of the Student Government Senate yesterday to review the specific budgetary language of the bill. We are currently drafting a formal memorandum to address their concerns regarding the calculator inventory and the mobile app implementation costs.

The administration has taken notice of this mobilization and requested a formal meeting to discuss the logistics of the library resource expansion. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines the cost-benefit analysis for both the calculator program and the shuttle tracking app. We will use this momentum to push for a direct presentation before the Senate floor.

Living on south village and having to wait 30 mins for a shuttle is the worst. We really need that app to see where the bus is.
