This is an iPetition for extending Sunday liquor license hours in Rockford and Winnebago County. Alderman Lenny Jacobson has asked the "Codes and Regulations" committee to consider extending Sunday hours from 8:00am to 2:00am. The current hours are 11:00am to midnight.
THIS IS NOT A LAW THAT WILL FORCE BUSINESSES TO EXTEND THEIR HOURS. IT IS A LAW THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO.
It makes no sense that bars and restaurants can be open to serve from 6:00am to 2:00am every day of the week except for Sunday. Extending the hours would allow restaurants and/or bars (who wish to open early) to serve alcohol just as all the private clubs are allowed to do, and also extend business two extra hours in the evening.
There are many businesses that want the hours extended, and the more signatures the better.
We the undersigned residents of the City of Rockford and Winnebago County hereby petition the Rockford City Council to extend the hours for the Sunday Liquor License consumption and sale of alcohol from 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning to 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.

The feedback from local business owners has been steady and it reinforces why this change is necessary. Getting this through the committee remains a slow process but I am staying in contact with the office to ensure we are not forgotten.

The momentum behind these extended hours is undeniable now. Some days feel like an uphill climb but knowing so many of you agree on this common sense change keeps me moving forward.

Seriously? 2am on a sunday is standard almost everywhere else. Why is this even a debate
About time. Makes no sense why we're singled out on Sundays. Let the business owners decide what works for them.
My restaurant loses money every weekend because of this stupid rule. Please fix it.
Living in Rockford is frustrating enough with these old blue laws. Just let us have a drink while watching the morning game.
REALLY tired of the government telling us when we can buy a beer. Fix this already.
