4 on 4 off on all courts with the current 4 slot racks on 1,2,3 provides everyone the ability to play with their level without preferencing winner status or skill level. No one is forced to play outside their desired skill level on the first 3 courts.

Don't try to fix what's not broken! Hagan Park system is great, it worked very well since it opened back up. Just because the queens from Ptown and NYC etc are back and instead of challenging good players on the pickleball courts, they are trying to challenge them with a lame petition that will only benefit them the 4 months they are in town.

I think that the advanced players are able to paddle up together with their 4 paddles. No one is forced to play with anyone w the racking system that we have.

For fair, pickleball court play on public courts

Let me guess, it’s November and the snowbirds are back trying to change everything they don’t like around. Leave the Pickleball courts alone, the system has been working perfectly fine. People at challenge court wait as well, sometimes even longer. Be careful what you wish for, the same people complaining about the challenge court also complain when they get crashed with fast balls and 11:0 games, then call people rude names just because they got destroyed. Adapt, get better so you can win games, find times to play when courts are empty (most of the time), or find courts that fit your play style better. Pickleball at Hagan Park is awesome the way it is.

There are way too many people waiting- just please come observe!

This is such a horrible idea. I guess then we should make a petition where a group of 15+ people can’t come to the courts and take over as they usually do. They are the ones creating a mess and act as if they own the place, with one “leader” in charge. Give me a break. Leave the 2 challenge courts alone! Never have I heard anyone tell someone you can’t play at the challenge courts. You are the problem because you are intimidated to challenge them so you are staying away. I’m far from advanced level, and many times we create our own little challenge tournament, with people my level. It’s always fun, motivating and inspiring. Sometimes I’m done playing but decide to sit down and watch them play, no drama only good competition and skill. Truly inspiring to see gay athletes playing sports.

The drama queens at its best! Tell me you never played sports without telling me you never played sports! Sometimes people that are playing at challenge courts wait longer than the other 3 courts because it’s 2 in and 2 out, yet you never hear them complain. They are excited to play and compete. You complain about the “same 4 playing” constantly, they earned it by winning. From my experience, even though I’m not always as good as they are, they’ve always been kind and welcoming. Just because you don’t like to compete and be challenged, doesn’t mean everyone else should be punished. Keep the courts the way they are and don’t ruin a fun place where everyone and all skills are welcomed.

Makes 0 sense what you are saying. The only one that sounds like elitist is you for being upset that onece in a while you have to wait to play. Oakland Park doesn’t have challenge courts yet the wait times are way longer than Hagan Park. So your petition and point is not valid.

There are always going to different levels of play in a public court. On the 3 open courts, there are beginners and experienced players alike. It works. We play with each other. To worry about the frustration of very advanced partners having to play with the inexperienced is elitist. If you want to play with 4 experienced players you can put your paddles together and wait like everyone else. It's done everywhere. The only issue that should matter is wait time.. I can't understand why anyone would think it's fair for some folks to wait 30 minutes between games while a the best 4 players play continously. It just not fair in a municipal funded court.

Funny how this wasn’t a problem at all until the snowbirds show up and want changes for the 5 months they are in town, but screw everyone that lives here year round. Find a trainer, get better and show up to challenge the advanced players. Sounds and looks like some of you have never played sports before, that’s why no one takes Pickleball serious. Maybe don’t show up to play at peak hours if you have a problem, I play between 1pm and 5pm, courts are always empty. Just saying…

This petition doesn’t quite make sense. Suggesting that all five courts be open play would mean that skilled players are forced to play against beginners, which would lead to frustration on both sides and ultimately no enjoyment for anyone. As someone who is still relatively new to pickleball, I can say from experience that I often sit and watch the more advanced players. It’s incredibly valuable for me to observe their techniques and strategies, as it helps me learn and improve. I’ve found that watching them in person teaches me far more than YouTube videos ever could. The current court setup works well. I always take the time to observe who’s playing before deciding where to join in, because let’s face it, it’s not fun to wait just to get crushed 11-0 in a matter of minutes. Having separate courts for different skill levels allows for a more enjoyable experience for everyone, from beginners to advanced players. Let’s keep the balance in place to ensure that pickleball remains fun and fair for all levels.

The challenge courts are essential for ensuring that advanced players have a space where they can engage in competitive, high level games. If all five courts were converted to open play, there would be no dedicated space for experienced players to enjoy the game at the level they expect. This could result in a less enjoyable experience for skilled players and, in turn, diminish the overall quality of play for the entire community. Instead take challenge courts as a motivation to get better, just because right now you’re not on that level, doesn’t mean you won’t be in the future.

I respectfully disagree with this petition. Challenge courts help players grow, improve their skills, and enjoy more competitive play. They also allow everyone the opportunity to participate — no one is excluded, and players can always move up by earning their spot on the court. This system has proven to work very well in many other communities. It creates a fun, motivating environment and encourages players of all levels to challenge themselves, learn, and get better. Instead of removing challenge courts, we should continue supporting a system that promotes fairness, improvement, and a positive pickleball experience for everyone.

It’s important to consider the balance between accessibility for all residents and the needs of more advanced players. The current system of reserving two courts for challenge play was designed to provide space for a range of skill levels, allowing more experienced players to engage in competitive play without overcrowding the open-play courts. While it’s true that open play courts can sometimes see high demand, it’s equally important to acknowledge that many of our more advanced players rely on the challenge courts to enjoy a fair and balanced game. Allowing all five courts to be open play, even on weekends, could inadvertently reduce the opportunity for advanced players to engage in a game at the level they enjoy and help maintain the balance of skill levels. It’s essential that we ensure fair access for players of all abilities, from beginners to advanced, so that everyone can participate and improve. Reducing the availability of challenge courts could limit the opportunity for skilled players to find matches that match their experience, which would ultimately hinder the overall quality of play for the community as a whole. At the end, no one prevents anyone from playing at the 2 challenge courts, but I guess some are just jealous they can’t win.

Problem is that once in the challenge courts, there are a small number of number of people that do not leave them for several hours which is unfair to the great majority of other players

I believe there should be only 1 challenge court during the week and no challenge courts on the weekends. So many players with only 3 courts !!
