The university has finally agreed to halt all after hours citations and process the requested refunds. It has been a long and draining road to get here but we held our ground until they moved. I will be monitoring the implementation of this policy to ensure every promised change is …

During the 2020/21 pandemic, the University of North Texas has doubled its fees for parking citations and its efforts to cite student vehicles after hours as a means of revenue generation for the school. Music students have been ticketed in the empty loading docks and parking lots after 8 pm when all classes were finished, while loading gear in for rehearsals. At a time when students are struggling financially more than ever, UNT has increased its profits from students since Covid began at the expense of the student body, all while keeping semester fees and tuition at the same rate as it was when no classes were virtual. Low income students, or students from low-income families, are hardest hit by this and academic progress is halted if the fees aren't paid. This petition is calling on the school to stop parking citations between 5 pm and 5 AM for spots not specifically reserved for a particular faculty member's 24 hour access, and refund students who were arbitrarily ticketed for these offenses after February 2020.

Seeing this momentum pick up shows me that the exhaustion we feel from these unfair fines is shared across campus. It has been a long road but this response confirms that we are right to demand change. I am drained but seeing this support keeps me going.

I’m a student at the eastman school of music, our school has easily accessible and free parking spaces available from 6pm to 8 am that students can use. Pretty ridiculous a university would profiteer off of parking violations on student musicians going to rehearsals which is the whole point of music school.

This has been absurd this semester. UNT ticket protocol has been unreasonable this semester considering I was almost ticket for my 6 hour, $15 reservation being 10 mins expired because my lesson went over. Four days later, I was ticketed for parking at 7pm for a recital when I’ve never received at ticket in past years.

Students are ticketed for parking at school for an event the school requires that they attend, so messed up.

As a low income, former unt student, I'm appalled at the University for taking advantage of it's students.

This is unacceptable even if there was no pandemic. This only shows how greedy you are, where you decide to steal money from students in a time like this. You know very well parking in an empty parking lot after hours is not doing any harm to anyone! Please have some common sense

I have gotten multiple citations for parking outside my dorm for 5-10 minutes max (with my hazards on) just to bring in groceries. These have happened all after 8 PM

It’s so unfair 300 dollars for one semester for a parking pass? Nah

I was ticketed even thought the whole side there was empty. I did what they asked to fight the ticket and I still haven’t gotten a reply
