the diocese confirmed that masks are officially optional now. im so glad we held our ground and kept the focus on parental choice. keep an eye on things just to be sure but for now we really pulled this off.

The use of masks in Birmingham diocese schools should be completely optional and at the discretion of parents. There are risks to be considered, and diocesan authority should not supersede that of parents.
The focus should instead be on individual responsibility and discernment through prayer and reflection.
Recommendations by any public or private health organization regarding masks or quarantines should not be treated as if they are mandates, or presented as such.

This petition is very well stated. Thank you for this petition. Forcing children with natural immunity to wear a mask out if fear is foolish.
Beyond the points made in the email, I am also very concerned about the O2 input impact on attentiveness and general hygiene from moisture around the mask to skin surface area. I am further concerned about the evidence of muscular skeletal malformation due to jaw position that results from children constantly mouth breathing due to masks.
Please make masks optional, it has been made clear they have no true benefit, they can cause other heath issues if not cleaned and maintained. If the fear of lawsuit is the last remaining reason for the diocese to not make it option, then request we sign a waiver, simply done!
Covid 19 is not your enemy, FEAR is. You will not die one day sooner or one day later than God has planned for you. But he did not create you to live in FEAR. The bible says "God has not given us the spirit of fear but of Power, and of Love and of a Sound mind" 2 Timothy 1:7
Masks should be a decision made between the parents and the children. They are terrible for a child with asthma and eczema. There should be more focus on education and less chastising/yelling if the mask drops below their nose or for walking down an empty hallway without your mask on. If we can attend sporting events, go to restaurants, malls, etc without wearing a mask, then the children should attend school without a mask. HAND HYGIENE and coughing in your elbow is the key to not getting sick….not masks.

Margaret Dubose and the diocese should be ashamed for how they are treating the families who choose Catholic education. The lack of communication and transparency on her decision making process is totally unacceptable. The data does not merit the extreme measures she continues to take with our children.
