The city finally committed to funding the quiet zone safe crossings. It was a long road to get here but we have the result we fought for. I need a rest but I will be watching the construction closely to ensure the work actually gets done.

Final supporters
We are tired of the loud and excessive use of train horns, whistles and bells along the Encinitas rail corridor (especially during all hours of the night).
The Encinitas Committee for Quiet Trains has been formed to ask the city to allocate funding to establish QUIET ZONE SAFE CROSSINGS to remedy this problem.
As the frequency of trains continues to increase, so does their disruptive noise. The horns are intrusive, create a health issue and devalue local property. They disturb our residents and are detrimental to our business community.

The silence from the city office remains frustrating even though I keep sending over the new names on this list. I am exhausted by the late night wake up calls but reading through your personal experiences keeps me moving forward with these emails.

I live about four blocks from the tracks and when it goes through at night it sounds like it is just outside my door. It always wakes me up and sometimes my toddler who is a sensitive sleeper as it is.
Sleep is interrupted every night. Loud announcements throughout the day in 2 languages. Eight train whistles for the 2 blocks at D and E streets. Then the long repetitions of the street crossing gate bells. Then multiply those noises by the 70-odd trains each night and day.
I've live on Vulcan. The train horns are getting noticeably louder. Some train engineers are playing the horn like a musical instrument. It's getting out of control. We deserve a quiets zone just like they have in Del Mar and elsewhere.
Amtrak and freight trains horns are far too loud. Amtrak trains pass through Leucadia going way too fast - no doubt adding to the need for the extremely loud horn. Slow them down, and turn down the volume. Use the Coaster as your model. The Coaster's speed and horn volume are perfectly within reason.
I live on Playa Blanca and some train horns are extremely loud especially the Amtrak and freight trains that go by during the late night and early morning hours. I have recorded dB levels over 104 at my unit which is considered extremely loud and can cause hearing damage.
By stoping the horns our quality of life would improve.
The trains are far too loud and disrupt regular hours of sleep

50+ trains a day x 4 horn noises, dinging bells and suicide announcements are making this beautiful little downtown difficult to live in. Online I see the city council has talked about a Quiet Zone for years, with no changes. This is a priority use for our tax dollars.
