We've had enough! The train honks for 2 continuous minutes when it crosses I37 until it passes the Alamodome. It also honks near I35 and Hackberry before entering the train yard. There is a quiet zone now in effect for this train as it passes Lone Star and parts of King William. The train honking disturbs Denver Heights, Alamodome Gardens, Dignowity Hill, Lavaca, Downtown, and parts of King William. Here's the kicker: the Inner City TIRZ already reserved $800,000 for a quiet zone from Essex to Sherman Street. We want this plan executed!

The current level of support has successfully forced the City Council to acknowledge the feasibility of our proposed quiet zone corridor. Legal counsel is drafting an official formal request to begin the engineering assessment for the tracks spanning from Essex to Sherman Street.

We're on S St Mary's in Lavaca neighborhood right on the tracks; in the quiet zone. The quiet zone is not respected, not to mention speed limits violated, especially during evening hours. Safety-related concerns as well as quality of life related concerns compel me to join in and sign.
A quiet zone that includes the entire edge of downtown near Eastside is long overdue. The city must act now to develop quality of life if it is serious about promoting urban living around the core.
I live at the northeast corner of King William. Because our prevailing breezes come from the Southeast, we constantly hear these train horns. Moreover, many of our B&B guests are very disturbed by the train horns and it is damaging to our business as well as our personal lives. Please end this obnoxious noise !!!
I have been wearing ear plugs to improve my sleep at night. What about all the people who have chronic illnesses, or the babies and the children in school? The horns are a power tool, a symbol an industry without any heart for the public, a relic of a time long passed.
I have owned a house on Devine St for 9 years and the train has been highly disruptive to my sleep and life. It honks often, loudly, and for a really long time. The house is now a rental property and I have concern about the train honking making it more difficult to rent.
Please end the train horns.

Please, please, please quiet the trains! Other major cities, Chicago for example, prohibit trains horn honking unless there is an obstruction visible on the tracks. Excessive honking is fined. Most importantly, the subtle health effects of being subjected to this sudden, hostile noise accumulate over time, whether people realize it or not.
