On behalf of the families of Amyclae Estates—both townhomes and single-family homes—we are requesting the installation of speed humps and/or appropriate signage on Econ Drive.

One of the things we cherish most about our neighborhood is the safe, family-friendly environment that allows our children to enjoy the freedom of walking, biking, and playing outdoors. However, Econ Drive has increasingly become a cut-through for drivers seeking to avoid traffic lights on Moore’s Mill, and traffic has grown further with the addition of new businesses in the Agora area, such as Lib’s.

Unfortunately, many residents have witnessed drivers traveling at unsafe, increased speeds through our community; often while distracted. With new developments near Southampton, we anticipate even more traffic in the near future, which raises serious concerns about the safety of our children and pedestrians.

We respectfully ask our HOA and county representatives to consider implementing traffic-calming measures, such as speed humps, to preserve the safety and character of our community.

This is a vital step in protecting the well-being of our residents, and we look forward to working together on the next steps to make Econ Drive and Amyclae Estates safer for everyone.

I am strongly in favor of this. Nearly 12 years ago my daughter almost became a fatality as she crossed the street to get to the bus stop and a car came flying over the hill at Econ and Bancroft toward Moores Mill. 12 years later we have a huge amount of increased traffic because of more business, townhomes by Southampton and I expect it to get worse with the new single family homes going on across from Southampton and the new school on 543. Our neighborhood is sandwiched in between.

I’m hoping for signage as well! The one thing I love about this community is that my son has been able to go “play outside” with friends since elementary school, I hope this continues for generations to come.

Please consider this request. When we first moved here it was just my husband and I. The rate of speed we would see and hear was frightening. Six years later with animals and children now included in our home, the speed is worse than ever. The safety of my family and community has to be protected. We are tax paying citizens who also pay for our HOA and deserve the safety and support from the people put in place to do so. Please help. Please do not wait until something awful happens. We cannot let that happen.

I have two daughters and we have lived here for 6 years now and in those 6 years, traffic has gotten much more through our neighborhood. Drivers are speeding all the time through here. Our kids want to ride bikes, take walks and etc but the amount of people through here speeding is ridiculous. Everyone one on the one side of the street have kids crossing to the other side for bus stops and it is actually so dangerous for our kids to cross due to the amount of speeders you can see until the last second. Speed humps would definitely help keep our kids safer.

Please conduct a study in the morning when kids are walking to the bus stop and after school during rush hour.

I've witnessed many drivers accelerate as they're cutting through our neighborhood to beat the traffic....all while we have little children trying to safely cross the street.
