(Formerly known as Bring Shelley Sugrue Back)
We, the undersigned, wish it to be known that we have exceedingly grave concerns regarding the cuts to the teaching staff at the college. From ECE to Primary to Secondary level.
One of the reasons that we chose Dunedin College of Education was its reputation for having excellent teachers who are enthusiastic and inspiring. We are concerned that by focussing on the staff that are research based, the college are taking the heart out of the teaching team, who are after all, teaching the teachers of the future.
Anyone can stand in front of an auditorium or classroom of students and recite what is written on a PowerPoint presentation. We need teachers who challenge us, excite us and make us think beyond the scope of simply passing our examinations.
We need teachers like Shelley Sugrue, in ECE, who motivate us all to be the best teachers that we can be and we want her redundancy to be overturned and for her to be reinstated immediately. We need more Shelley’s, not less
I have been hearing from so many of you who are just as heartbroken as I am to see these passionate educators pushed out. I am working to get our list of concerns directly to the leadership team because they need to understand that we are not just talking about job titles here. We are talking about the loss of the mentors who actually know how to inspire a room full of students.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that I am not the only one who refuses to watch our college lose its soul. These teachers provided the passion that defined my education and your support shows that we are ready to fight to bring that standard back.

Shelley was the reason I loved my ECE courses. You are losing all the best staff and the quality of the program is going to drop so fast. Bring her back!

RIDICULOUS decision. Getting rid of the people who actually know how to teach in favor of research paper writers is a huge mistake. Wake up.
