As a busy working and leisure harbour it is imperative for the safety of all harbour users that Howth Harbour be dredged as a matter of urgency. This harbour has not been dredged since 1982 and now vessels running aground at low water has become common place.

I have been hearing from so many of you who have personally felt the crunch of a hull against the floor of the harbour. It is heartbreaking to see our local maritime heritage ignored while the seabed rises to meet us. I am spending these weeks gathering these accounts to present directly to the authorities.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that I am not the only one worried about our boats hitting the silt every time the tide drops. Knowing so many of you depend on these waters as much as I do gives me the strength to push for the maintenance we were promised decades ago.

This has now become very dangerous even for the local boats but very dangerous for visitors as they do not where the sand banks are. Its only a matter of time before there is going to be an accident hopefully not fatal if someone goes overboard.

Howth Harbour badly needs to be dredged. Both commercial and leisure craft are grounding regularly. This is affecting the commercial attractiveness of the Harbour.

Howth harour is an amenity for most of Dublin. It is very close to becoming unusable and endangering the jobs of so many who work in the associated indutry

Howth Harbour needs to be dredged. It is seriously silted up and at low water is a serious inconvenience and danger to harbour users.

This needs to be done as a matter of urgency especially for all the local businesses that rely on howth and the income that it generates for the GOVERNMENT

Given popularity of Howth as a destination for visitors to Dublin, it is embarrassing that the neglect of harbour be so visible to tourists. If this continues, it will no longer be a fishing port.
