Petition to ban dreambox "learning" in schools forever. In signing this, we believe that Dreambox is not beneficial to our learning. It gets in the way of classwork, and handles poorly. The math games you have to play are boring and do not operate well and have little to no instruction. It focuses more on looking good than actually teaching us math. We also have to do 10 lessons a week. (now 15, soon to be 20) The material is from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade and we already know it all. All it is doing is causing frustration and protests like these. If you believe what is said above, vote to back it up. It is time for us to rise up, and blow dreambox out of the water forever! Like aesop once said "A bundle of sticks is stronger than 1 stick alone" Like our founding fathers said, "We shall hang together or we shall all hang seperatley" We need to stand tall, and stand strong against Dreambox. Everybody copy this link, and paste it wherever you can. We can rise up, We can stand strong, together, we can get rid of dreambox forever!

Updates

October 20, 2021

I have finished drafting a formal letter detailing the curriculum concerns and the excessive lesson quotas to present to the Wake County Board of Education. Several parents have begun forwarding supplemental data regarding student frustration that I will include in the final packet.

The growth of this petition has reached a level that warrants a formal review by the district administration. I have requested a meeting with the school board to present our collected feedback on the current lesson requirements. I will provide details on that meeting once the time and location are confirmed.

Dreambox has been the most depressing site in my life. I'm really good at math but the instructions make no sense at all and have poorly made lessons.

This program is horrible and most of the time as a parent I can’t even figure out what the lessons are asking.

It does not care about your grade level. If you get questions right, it gives you very very hard stuff. If you get them wrong, it sends you back to addition. The cheap text to speech voice takes up way too much time, too.

Also, the animations are terrible. Between the problems, there are low-quality animations that can last over 10 seconds. The UI looks like it was designed for preschoolers. If you have ever had a math teacher that made you do 30 minutes of Dreambox per week, you can feel the pain.

Dreambox just distracts from real work, plus I would learn better if I wasn't using Dreambox because it's 3 grades below ME!!!!

I agree that Dreambox focuses more on looking good than actually teaching you math. Most of the time the work is a few grades back, and I've encountered multiple glitches. I may be wrong, but I think the county is paying for the service, which is even worse.

Dreambox is very bad at explaining what to do in a lesson to you. If you haven´t done that skill yet or you just don´t understand the lesson, you won't be able to do the lesson. It used to be more fun (but still really annoying), but when we got older, it changed and got boring. I know that the teachers think that Dreambox is a good tool, but I haven't learned anything by doing Dreambox, and I 100% could make something that would be fun for kids and still teach them better than Dreambox. We also used to have something called protigy, and that was really fun, but then they banned it because it was ¨too fun¨ but if you want kids to actually do the assignments, then they have to be fun.
