The Donation Not Discrimination campaign that we have been running for the last five years against the ban on blood donation for gay and bisexual men in the UK has seen hundreds of you holding information pickets on your campuses; raising awareness of the National Blood Service's policy, whilst simultaneously encouraging those who are allowed to give blood under the current rules to do so. Thousands of people have signed our petition against the blood ban, and we're now ready to move into the next stage of the campaign... The advisory committee responsible for advising the National Blood Service (SaBTO) has announced a public meeting on October 27 as part of its review into donor referrals and exclusions. Now we have an opportunity to influence the outcome of this review. NUS LGBT will be present at the meeting, along with other organisations and individuals who question the ban including Stonewall, Unison LGBT and that National AIDS Trust. We will be handing in the petitions that you have been sending in for the past five years at this meeting to demonstrate the strength of feeling out there in the student movement against this policy.
