Blood saves lives. It’s as simple as that. So why are openly gay men still banned from donating blood? The FDA continues to classify homosexual males as a higher threat even though all donations undergo thorough screening for diseases before being distributed. There’s no need to continue unwarranted exclusion.

Everyone deserves the right to make a difference regardless of being gay or straight. Sign this petition and help end discrimination. Blood is equal.

We will send the following letter to the US FDA:

To:
US Food and Drug Administration

Blood saves lives. What we want is simple.

Openly gay men should not be banned from donating blood. Especially when there are constant blood shortages in the United States.

Homosexual males should not be classified as a higher threat. All donations undergo thorough screening for diseases before being distributed.

A lifetime ban from blood donations is excessive and discriminatory. There is no need to continue unwarranted exclusion.

We believe that blood is equal, and everyone deserves the right to make a difference regardless of being gay or straight.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Blood saves lives. Gay or Straight. My blood could save you one day and I must say that I am gay.

The fact that homosexuals are still banned from donating blood is ridiculous. It was ridiculous as soon as they developed a reliable HIV screening test back in the 1980s, and it continued to be ridiculous once the "AIDS is a gay disease" mentality was stomped out of the public consciousness. Why this homophobic relic still is in place is unfathomable."

Please review your policy about whop can and who cannot give Blood. I understand the need for this in the 80's and possibly the first half of the 1990's. It no longer seems to be sound policy though. Thank you.

This ban is ridiculous. You can't label an entire group of people as high risk.

In my freshman year of high school I was turned away in front of a large group of my peers. I was angry and confused and it has always stuck with me.

I'm O-Positiv and I've donated blood 5 times before coming out. I would happily continue donating if I didn't have to lie during the screening process.
