They actually finally gave us the green light for the skatepark build and I am seriously sitting here stunned because I keep thinking this is a dream. I am so glad we can stop worrying about being chased off the pavement now and honestly I just want to go buy …

The local derry skateboard community are asking for the city to build them a skatepark.

We have been left out for years while other sporting facilities have been built to accommodate other local sports. This has left us, the local skaters, to take to the streets and local spots to skate and this isn't always welcomed by the local people, police etc. But we have no choice.

If you look at every other major city, you can see they they make use of unused spaces by building skateparks, Belfast has several.

We would be grateful if you could take this matter seriously. We would love to skate in a safer environment for everyone without having to travel outside of our city to do so.

We would also like a safe plapce for younger up and coming skaters to go to learn how to skate and do so in a safe and controlled area .

I just refreshed the page and saw we hit a hundred signatures which is honestly blown my mind a little bit because I honestly thought it would just be me and my friends signing this thing. It is so cool to see names popping up that I do not recognize since it means people outside our immediate group actually care about getting us a real spot to skate.

I was just out at the usual spot and saw some kids trying to practice on that cracked pavement again which just reminds me why this whole thing is so necessary honestly. It is frustrating that we are still stuck waiting for a response while everyone else gets their shiny new facilities but I am typing out some emails to the council right now because they really cannot ignore us forever.

Having been a local skater from derry from the 90's. I can whole heartedly say that the city needs this badly, we tryed as a small skate community when I was young and found it very difficult, so please please give this to the new youths of derry.

my wife and I have to travel to letterkenny several times a week so my son can pratice on his skateboard and scooter. It would be great to have one in our own city and a great achivement for the city of derry to finally have a skate park

It's ridiculous that a regional capital like Derry makes no provision for skateboarding, whilst lots of other smaller towns and cities on the island do. Derry needs to cater for all sports and interests - not just football or gaelic.

This should be priority for the city, skaters congregate near Ebrington. Do we have to have skateboards tripping people and skateboarders being inconsiderate or antisocial before we can actually have something done? Why not give them a dedicated space

If we had something like this I believe loads of little girls would be better more confident skaters. I know it's all I wanted when I was young, to have a place to fall where there is no judgement your encouraged to dust yourself off and try again.

Ridiculous derry still hasn't got a park. I remember meeting with the mayor when I was about 12 with a bunch of other skaters. He promised us a park and showed us plans for where it would be at the old army barracks at Fort George. That was around 2002.

Derry city desperately needs to move forward and provide outdoor skate facilities for young people. Not everyone is into football. Rollerskating, skateboarding, biking etc are all excellent activities for youths. It's about time this city was more diverse in what it offers! Greenways were created for cycling, so investment needs to be focused on other outdoor sports too! A skatepark would be an amazing investment in the city!

A skate and other skating facilities are much needed in the city! This would be amazing for children, teenagers and adults alike. There's lots of potential places that could be used. Outdoor facilities are NEEDED!!!! Young people NEED more facilities to help alleviate boredom and depression, and give then places to go to hang out and be active.
