The VA finally committed to the development plan. They officially agreed to stop the decay and start building for our veterans. We expect to see shovels in the ground soon.

Department of Veterans Affairs Must Make Something Positive of Ft. Howard VAMC Property

The Department of Veterans Affairs Fort Howard VAMC Property has been wasting away for nearly two decades. It is time to make something good happen there for veterans, plus the local community, on that Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco River shoreline acreage. Either develop the veterans focused community that has been promised, or turn it into a park. This situation is a miserable fiasco. The reasons for that need to be fully investigated, and publicly reported on.
A veterans community there will have the effects of enhancing and preserving lives of vets and their loved ones. It will help prevent suicides by veterans. Vets all over the world know about the failed residential, retail and medical office development, and it hurts them. Vets who could be living there in the proposed individual living, assisted living, and nursing home units can be more good for each others' health and lives than bad - as is normal in veterans housing.

The United States government has lost millions of dollars on that failed project. Private American companies and citizens suffer millions of dollars in losses, also.
All that American Military Veterans who want to live there are loosing - everyday for 19 years - is incalculable and deeply painful.
The Department of Veterans Affairs must make good on their responsibilities to have Ft. Howard be developed into something positive. Beginning right now!

This is a perfect place for a facility like Charlotte Hall for our veterans, many of whom are aging and need this assistance.
My husband is a 100% disabled Vietnam vet...all veterans in the area love Fort Howard!!! Revitalization is the answer...too many homeless vets out there
If you can use the area for any kind of Veteran housing this should be done. Handicapped Veterans deserve better than the North Avenue disability housing they currently have. Disability housing for veterans is what this land should and could be used for.
I too worked as a student & volunteered escorting the residents to church/chapel in the late 70s & 80s. Our Daddy was a resident in the rehab during the 80s. It was a good facility back then & many of the residents lived out the remainder of their lives there. We were grateful Daddy was so close as we lived in Edgemere. He was fortunate to be able to come home.
I worked there for years when it was up and running to full capacity. It was a beautiful place to see. It was designed and built for our Veterans and it rightfully belongs to our Veterans. They have and our still serving our Country and they should be rewarded for their sacrifice to make our Country a better, safer place for us Americans.
Disgraceful what happened to this site.
This beautiful historic park deserves a chance all of the community and even outside the community care for and love this park it is apart of our history don't take it away from the ones who deserve it who served for us and our rights

I worked a weekend security/fire watch shift there for a friend who had the contract and understand the uniqueness of this property and the redevelopment opportunity that it offers. I support something positive for veterans to be redeveloped there.
