If you live in Lehigh Acres, FL, you’ve no doubt had to navigate the death race that Lee Blvd has become. How many times have you seen two, three or even more vehicles weaving in and out of traffic as they barrel down Lee Blvd at high speeds, and yet there never seems to be a Sherriff’s Deputy on patrol. There’s no point in calling the LCSO to report it because “Dominic Torreto” and his crew will have been long gone or have already killed someone by the time they can do anything about it.

Of Course it’s our responsibility as drivers to do better, but defenseive driving can only mitigate risk to a certain degree. People willing to put our families at risk have absolutely no fear of being held accountable because they know what we all know. There’s no one there to stop them. Well, that’s not totally accurate. If you’re on your way to church at 7am on a Sunday morning (when the drag racing knuckledraggers are still passed out on some cold dirty bathroom floor) THEN you might actually see a LCS Deputy looking for anyone speeding. That’s great...I guess, but it kinda feels like our actual safety is taking a backseat to traffic violations.

We appreciate that the LCSO has their hands full out here in Lehigh. Our community doesn’t make it any easier on them. All we're asking is that they use targeted patrols when traffic is at its heaviest and most dangerous. Drivers need to know that excessive speeds on this stretch of road will not be tolerated. Or, we do nothing and let the body count rise. We choose the former.
