The county board finally voted to require lights and identification for all horse drawn vehicles. I can finally breathe easier knowing our roads will be safer for my family tonight. Thank you for sticking with me until this change became the law of the land.

I have been riding these back roads my entire life and the daily risks we face are constant reminders that our safety cannot wait any longer. I am gathering my notes to present our collective concerns directly to the county officials because the current silence from their offices is unacceptable.

Seeing this community unite behind road safety confirms that I am not alone in fearing for the lives of my neighbors on these dangerous curves. The momentum behind this movement gives me real hope that we can finally force our officials to prioritize human lives over outdated customs.

I droveof horse and buggy for 18 years the exact bucket that is on the picture of this since I left amish and started driving I realize how hard it is to see those Buggy Especially at night they need more lighting it would make it safer for people driving vehicles and them self
Safety for everyone must come before traditions. Horse-drawn units that are not properly identified and registered create unreasonable burdens on the operators of the horse drawn and the motorized vehicle. State regulations put the operator of a motorized vehicle at fault, if they strike another vehicle or horse-drawn unit from the back. Some cultures may believe that if a person in a horse-drawn unit is struck and killed it was their time to decease. It is my opinion that is an unfair burden to place on the operator of a motorized vehicle. Safety for everyone supersedes all traditions.
Today I met a buggy going down 71 in the driving lane. He had two semi-trucks and three vehicles backed up behind him. Totally NOT safe and should not be allowed in the traveling lane.
I worked there for about a year.its not safe for an out of town driver to run up on one in low light conditions.
I feel the people who use a horse drawn vehicle for transportation should abide by the same rules motor driven vehicle drivers abide by. The buggies should have signal lights,mirrors, also flashing yellow lights. They should also pay road taxes & have license plates.

i also think they need to clean the horse crap off the road. tired of swerving to miss it everyday on my way to work. they sell poop catcher bags
