A petition to the RI Public Utilities Commission outlining our position that National Grid RI’s Deferred Gas Recovery Program is an unfair and unwarranted charge that should not be subjected to rate payers who choose to switch to third party natural gas supply.

September 21, 2018

I have been spending my evenings reading through the messages you all left about the sudden spike in your utility bills. It is clear that these unfair charges are impacting households just like mine that are already struggling to keep up with basic costs.

September 21, 2018

Seeing this much momentum proves I am not the only one feeling the weight of these unfair charges on my monthly bill. It is heartening to know so many of you are fighting this battle right alongside me. Now we prepare to bring these concerns directly to the commission.

the purpose of non-National Grid purchases is to purchase energy at more competitive prices and to avoid this very issue of National Grid needing to have make up charges for their inefficiencies. Should not be done for the energy itself but for only their provided pipes / wires which National Grid must keep in proper condition

This fundamentally takes away from the idea of deregulation. Customer's like to control their costs. They should not be "fined" for trying to reduce their costs. I have seen many local small businesses unable to make the switch because of these fees, including churches and other non-profits that just want to control their budget.

Very confusing and shady practice by Nationals Grid. I would not have switched if I knew it would cost be $2,000.00. Thank you.

This is an unfair charge for customers that utilize competitive options made available through deregulation. This fee should be eliminated.

A client of mine was adversely affected by this policy related to electricity supply. The consumer shouldn’t get dinged from trying to protect the financial interests of their businesses.

This charge is unfair and impairs savings to consumers who want to exercise their deregulated right of choice to switch to a third party gas supplier.

This is a step backward towards the monopolistic utility industry model of yesteryear. A deliberate attempt to limit competition for large suppliers.
