Congressional Leaders: I am angered to the core by the District spending prohibition included in the Congressional budget agreement reached late in the evening on Friday, April 8, 2011 banning my city from spending its local funds on abortion assistance to women in need. This level of micromanagement into how the city spends its local dollars is outrageous, and I oppose Congressional interference in local spending decisions. This is a poignant example of why I strongly support for statehood for the District of Columbia, and will settle for nothing less than full voting representation in the House and Senate. The residents of the District of Columbia deserve to be accorded the basic principles of democracy and self-determination.
