Women have been fighting for their reproductive rights for decades and these rights are at risk once again. The H.R.3 No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion would allow individual states to refuse coverage and care for abortions even in life-threatening situations and would further restrict access to abortion coverage in the private insurance market. Not only does this bill seek to severely limit women’s access to abortion it also redefines rape as a “forcible event” which can be construed as blaming women who do not or cannot fight back against their attacker. Women need to take back the power to fight against this misogynistic piece of legislation. Speaker of the House, John Boehner, has declared that passing H.R. 3 is of “critical” importance and “one of our highest legislative priorities.” By signing this petition, you ask Congress to refuse Republican Christopher Smith’s efforts towards re-codifying The Hyde Amendment and provide women the opportunity to fight, once again, for their reproductive rights. Let Congress know that passing Rep. Smith’s proposed No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act will threaten the safety and rights of all women.
