WE DID IT!!

Thank you for all for signing the petition! Late October Chairman David Catania proposed legislation to offer college scholarships to DC high school graduates -- but it was only open to students that attend school students. They have now re-released the bill to allow private school students and home school students!

Dec 11th at 3:30pm the Education Committee holds a mark up, and we anticipate a vote in January. There is a long road ahead ---the bill still has to bepassed, andfundedandimplemented-- But this step is a HUGE victory for the private school and home school community. Thank you for your engagement!

Tell the DC City Council thatALLDC Taxpayers Deserve DC’s Promise Scholarship for their Children

We, the undersigned DC taxpayers and citizens, believe that it is unfair to punish parents who choose a private school or homeschool for their children.

The DC Promise Establishment Act, proposed by DC Education Committee Chairman David Catania in October 2013, offers up to $100,000 for DCPS and DC public charter school graduates to attend college.

This excludes several thousand children who are homeschooled or who attend private, independent, and faith-based schools. Low-income children and children with disabilities who attend private schools are hit particularly hard.

Parents make tough decisions to select a school that best fits their child's academic, social, and emotional needs. No tax-paying citizen should be punished for making a choice on behalf of their child.

We, the undersigned respectfully request that the DC City Council amend the DC Promise Establishment Act to allowALLDC students to apply.

The DC City Council will had a hearing on this bill on November 13th -- please sign this petition asking for fair treatment for ALL DC students so that we can present the signatures for the record.

We are crawling toward that next big number and honestly it feels like the momentum is finally building after all that drama with the committee draft. If you could just ping a few neighbors or whoever about this right now it would be huge because I think we really have a chance to show them that we are not going away anytime soon.

This scholarship would be a great door opening for my son. We are so concerned about how he will be able to pay for college.
