School pick-up congestion poses several safety risks for children, including:
- Children Accidents - Heavy traffic around schools increases the risk of children being hit by cars, especially when drivers are distracted or rushing.
-
Impaired Visibility: Congestion can block drivers’ view of children walking or crossing the street, particularly when cars are parked illegally or on the walkways.
-
Unsupervised Children: With heavy traffic, children may be tempted to dart across streets without waiting for traffic to clear, putting them at risk of accidents.
-
Driver Aggression: Traffic jams often cause frustration, leading to aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, unsafe lane changes increasing the risk of accidents.
- Gate 1 pick-up Zone Hazards: Cars stopping in undesignated areas or double parking can create additional hazards, blocking traffic flow and forcing children to cross in unsafe areas.
Our childrens lives are our utmost priority and we feel that Gate 1 is not suitably equipped to handle high traffic volumes yet Star College insist on using this gate. Gate 2 is more suitable based on a parking area. Is Star College Westville going to be held responsible for any fatalities when parents are advising the school of the above safety risk and hazardous to children at Gate 1?
