Residents of the 66th Precinct are concerned about an issue related to our neighborhood. For years, a woman has been leaving food, to feed feral cats, on the corners of Avenue I from East 7th through East 10th Streets. In addition to creating a littering mess, we have been overrun by feral cats, which leave feces and create bad odors that permeate our blocks. The problem has now expanded to the presence of raccoons, which are known to carry rabies and whose feces, once airborne, endanger the health of children. We are worried about our health and quality of life.

Updates

July 16, 2018

The feedback I have received from residents confirms that this issue affects our daily quality of life in significant ways. I am currently reaching out to local sanitation officials to formalize our request for a more sustainable solution for the area.

The response to this petition confirms that many neighbors share these concerns regarding health and sanitation in our community. We have reached a point where local officials can no longer overlook this ongoing issue. I am preparing to present these signatures to the appropriate agencies to request a formal resolution.

Something must me done. The DeBlasio administration clearly does not care about quality of life issue, but this is not just a quality of life issue, if is a safety issue! When I call 311 they say will only do something if these rodents have rabies. How will they know if they do not do anything? Are they waiting for a tragedy (G-d forbid) before action?

This is a danger to the neighborhood, our children and grandchildren, and it is appalling the city disregards this life and safety issue.

I am a resident of East 9th Street and the dead end. Feral cats have been a huge issue on my block, and continue to return because of cat food/water left daily under the mailbox on my corner. Additionally, this past year, I have found raccoon feces on my front lawn multiple times. Please do something to help keep my block safe for my family and my neighbors.
