JULY 4, 2020 Update: A momentous anniversary in our country's history to fighting taxes and tyranny. Your signatures had impact, as the Mayor and Council did not increase the budget by 4.5%, but rather found a way to cut the budget by 4.5% - a 9% swing. Well done, neighbors. Congratulations and a Happy and Healthy Independence Day to all.

JUNE 1, 2020 Update: PETITION STILL ACTIVE - NEXT MAYOR & COUNCIL MEETING IS NOW TODAY @ 5:00 PM JUNE 1, 2020 - SPECIAL MEETING CALLED ONE (1) WEEK AHEAD OF THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING TO VOTE ON BUDGET.

1. Mayor Rendo & Council members received the petition you signed mid-afternoon on Monday, May 18th, prior to the scheduled M&C meeting. Neither the Mayor nor any of the Council members acknowledged receipt of the petition.

2. Subsequently, Mayor Rendo & Council cancelled the May 18th Council meeting. The next regularly scheduled Mayor & Council meeting was scheduled for June 8th as established at the Jan. 6th at the Reorganization meeting. Inexplicably, the Mayor & Council have scheduled a "Special Meeting" for late this afternoon @ 5:00 Monday, June 1, 2020 and will be voting on the Budget.

3. This evening's meeting will be a virtual meeting with most likely the same poor audio quality as the previous meeting and without the Mayor and Council having to face you the taxpayer. WHAT IS THE RUSH & WHY THE SWITCHERO? The May 18th meeting was cancelled then a special meeting scheduled about such an important issue and all to avoid you the taxpayer.

4. You are encouraged to continue to share this active petition with your neighbors and those you know in Woodcliff Lake and/or email Mayor Rendo & the council members. Email addresses for Mayor & Council: click here.

The undersigned call on the Borough of Woodcliff Lake Mayor & Council take the following actions:

1. Reduce Borough expenses for the pending budget by twenty (20%) percent across the board without any delay in the manner it deems most appropriate.

2. The Mayor & Council are to petition the County of Bergen & the respective school boards to do the same.

We are now in unprecedented times; Bergen County's unemployment rate in Feb 2020 was 3.1%. Suddenly on May 1st, 1,000,000 New Jerseyans were counted as unemployed. These are depression era numbers. Compounding problems, NJ's 40 year old computer system is incapable of processing claims & many are waiting months to receive their 1st check.

Woodcliff Lake & Bergen County families have lost jobs in record numbers & in some cases both incomes in a home. The Mayor & Council have a moral obligation to do the will of the people, as we are your constituents. Clearly, the majority of families cannot afford to pay for a 100% employed local, county, school or state government as if the government agencies were immune to the present economic realities. This burden must be equally distributed.

The Public Sector cannot be shielded from decisions by the government which have cost so many their livelihoods & are now burning through their savings. We do not want to see a spike in home foreclosures or tax lien sales. Woodcliff Lake and Bergen County families and individuals are hurting and it is expected the worst is yet to come.

The Woodcliff Lake Mayor & Council must take some of the financial pressure off families by cutting all municipal expenses by twenty (20%) percent now.
