The undersigned oppose the ballot referendum changing the name of the General Assembly's executive officer from Speaker to President. We reject the belief that changing a name is a means of legitimizing student advocacy here at The Catholic University of America and assert that only through improving the student experience at CUA can The Student Association General Assembly further legitimize itself. Instead of clarifying the role of SAGA's executive the proposed change will confuse incoming students as the Speaker has no executive authority. Instead of changing names the undersigned encourage the General Assembly to use the term Speaker (and the questions that may result) as a means of encouraging dialouge between the student body and SAGA. The undersigned pledge to vote NO on the proposed change on March 30th from 9am-9pm in Pryz Lobby and online at vote.cua.edu.
