Dear Chief Blair,
We the parents of Weston Memorial Junior Public School request that you provide a crossing guard at the corner of Queens Dr. and Pine St.
The ongoing construction on Weston Rd. and resulting gridlock has caused rush hour motorists to bypass Weston Rd. by using Pine St. as a thoroughfare to and from Lawrence Ave. Most of the children attending Weston Memorial have to cross Pine St. when walking to and from school. Speeding, time-stressed motorists as well as heavy congestion are making this crossing very dangerous.
Go Transit estimates that the construction in the area will continue for at least an additional 15 months. Therefore, in order to secure the safety of our children, please expedite this request and provide a crossing guard at Queens Dr. and Pine St.
I was watching the traffic near the school again this morning and honestly it is just getting scarier by the day with those cars cutting through Pine like they are on a race track. I have been trying to get a straight answer from the city office but they keep shuffling me around to different departments which feels like a total waste of time when the kids are the ones actually in danger. Please keep talking to your neighbors about this because if we stay loud enough maybe someone will finally actually listen.

I really thought this might just float around in the void but seeing so many people chime in with their own stories about how chaotic that intersection has become is honestly giving me a lot of hope. It feels like the city is finally going to have to acknowledge that we are not just overreacting because the traffic situation is actually getting genuinely frightening for the kids.

My kids walk this way and i am terrified every single morning. People fly down that street like they are on a highway. We need a guard before someone gets seriously hurt.

Fix this now. Kids are literally risking their lives just to get to school because of the construction traffic. Totally unacceptable.
