Petition to request that Oldham Council continue to Support Dog hill Campsite

We the under signed are requesting that Oldham Council continue to support Dog Hill Scout Camp's status under Discretionary Rate Relief. (DRR)

This loss of such a facility would be devastating to the Scout movement and the children of Oldham.

Please sign this petition to help us to maintain funding from Oldham Council to support the campsite. The campsite is an important part of our community lives and we want to ensure that it is available for our local cubs and scouts, and community helpers. Thank you

Whilst we welcome any constructive criticism. Please note that any negative comments will be removed from this petition as there are processes that can be followed if you wish to complain about any aspect of the campsite. Email [email protected] if this is your intended action. Thank you

I have been reading through your messages about the memories made at Dog Hill and they remind me exactly why my own children learned so much there. I am currently preparing our formal request for the council to review the relief status so that we can keep these gates open for the next generation.

Seeing this level of support for Dog Hill reminds me of all the nights I spent there as a scout. This place is more than just land and tents to our kids, and having you all behind this fight gives me so much hope for the future of our camps.

I still remember my first cub camp there over 50 years ago. Dog Hill is part of the towns heritage an an invaluable community resource then and even more so now.

This is a valued scouring resource. We use it as a district to achieve the hardest challange badge in Scouts, the expedition challenge. Its a charity where all monies are put back into the site. Increasing the rates would potentially put an end to this valuable resource for young people when the council are cutting youth services.

We need as many volunteers as possible to put in whatever hours they can to get this site fully functional. Three of us (not young by any means) have just spent a very enjoyable weekend but hard work at the camp doing what we can.

As a local cub leader at 1st shaw to lose such a venue would be devastating to the district as with investment and support from the local community this could be a real asset to local interest groups. Neil Samuels

From a bricked up bunkhouse & 4 walled toilet block, no roof or fittings. It wasn't used. You now have leveled camping areas, fitted kitchen, dining area & bunk beds, wood burning fire to be cosy . A flushing toilet block. Over the years usage has increased and the children have great fun.

As a ex district commissioner of Crompton and Royton, I hope Oldham council realise this camp site needs this support to help the young people of Crompton Royton and surrounding areas to focus their positive energies for the good of themselves and their community.
