Mr. Michael Walmsley

President

Shire of Waroona

P O Box 20

WAROONA WA 6215

Dear Mr. Walmsley,

PRINCE RD-SCARP RD

As landowners, tourists and/or users of the recreational facilities in the hills to the East of Waroona we petition the Shire of Waroona to, as a matter of priority, initiate the re-opening and re-construction of Prince Road to provide legal vehicle access along the currently predominantly gazetted road reserve from Scarp Road through to Lake Moyanup, Weir Road and the South West Highway.

The re-instatement of this road would:

o create a beautiful scenic circular tourist drive that could be accessed from either the northern or southern sides of Waroona. The drive would take tourists via Lake Moyanup and then east up through the Scarp and then on to the Waroona Dam. When travelling west, there are breathtaking Scarp views across to the coast;

o increase tourism spending in Waroona with resultant boosts for local businesses;

o reinstate historical access originally used by Waroona’s timber and farming pioneers;

o improve safety to both residents and the general public by providing:

o direct access and shortened response time for emergency service vehicles;

o 2 emergency evacuation options for residents and the significant number of tourists visiting the Waroona Dam, particularly during the summer bushfire season.

Updates

April 15, 2019

I have finalized the formal request for a meeting with the Shire of Waroona council members to discuss the road reserve. My focus is on presenting the emergency evacuation data to demonstrate why this route is a safety necessity for the region.

The volume of support has reached a level that the Shire can no longer ignore. I am finalizing the formal request for a meeting with the Council president to present our case for the reconstruction of Prince Road.

As land owners and rate payers within the Shire of Waroona, we support all initiatives that assist with tourism, public safety, improved fire fighting outcomes. These are significant and important issues for our town.

as an ex fire fighter this is a no brainer ! an extra excape route if another large fire breaks out in the forests around the res.

For a local tourist destination the road matching the location would be ideal!!! Also, the poor excuse for a road with the unbelievable amount of potholes and dirt should also be part of this project. Bring Waroona into modern day Australian Times!!!

Accessibility is paramount to safety, however to make this a tourism icon and new venture for tourism within the area is essential.

It is an important access way, and as an occasional driver to that area find the impasse unexpected and frustrating.

Being a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years and seen many a time where insufficient escape routes cause potential death and/or serious injury. I urge this road be reopened in the name of common sense and safety
