Dear Neighbor/Parent:

Currently, children walking to school from the intersection of Klein Road and Covent Garden must walk within the shoulder of Paradise Road to reach the sidewalks fronting the High School. Unfortunately, this healthy activity, places children at risk. According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2010, one crash-related pedestrian death occurred every 2 hours, and a pedestrian injury occurred every 8 minutes.

I am preparing a formal request to the Town of Amherst, Town Board seeking the installation of a missing segment of sidewalk. The sidewalk, if constructed, would connect Williamsville East High School to the existing sidewalks at Klein Road and Covent Garden.

The sidewalk project would include the installation of 1,414 lineal feet of sidewalk at a cost of $55,146.  The Town of Amherst considered funding the project through a grant program at no cost to the affected properties.

Please add your support to this project, by signing the petition below. Your support can show the Town Leadership that safe pedestrian mobility is a value supported by the majority of the community. Thank you for your participation in trying to improve pedestrian safety for our high school children.
