Oahu is in need of a Community Safe Spot Skate Spot.
WHY?
Currently, there is no safe spot skate spot in Hawaii. As a skateboarder in Hawaii I have noticed that most skateparks here are constantly covered in Graffiti. Every time I have gone to the skatepark there is always a group of people drinking alcohol and smoking pot or doing some sort of drug. Though most of these groups are welcoming and nice I feel like there is no positive influence being installed in the younger skaters or those that are newer to the sport. Most safe spot skate spots are particularly beneficial to urban communities because:
- It creates a positive experience and influences others to do the same
- Positive skaters make better next door neighbors
- Skaters who are above the influence that socialize with others are more likely to create a positive experience at the park for everyone around them and are less likely to create a nuisance during these interactions and in turn instill a positive influence on others and promote a healthy behavior among the skateboarding community.
WHERE?
At the Honolulu City Kamehameha Park.
- Honolulu City Kamehameha District Park is a fairly large park, however half the park goes unused most of the time and the grass is dying.
- The park is used by surrounding communities from all walks of life.
THE PROBLEM:
There is a huge number of skaters with in the surrounding area and Kalihi, There seems to be no intentions in the near future of having a skatepark in or around Kalihi. By barring the park from public use by skaters, they are forced to find other places to skate.
THE SOLUTION:
Kalihi is a progressive, evolving neighborhood with a growing number of families and people who partake in the sport of skateboarding who live in and around the kalihi area that seek an outdoor space to skate. A safe spot skate spot is a great opportunity for skaters to thrive in a positive space and skate with others that wish to promote a healthy positive influence in the skateboarding community and general community around them and socialize in a safe, gated environment thats run by a positive set of skaters that aim to promote a safe healthy environment. We ask that Mayor __________________________________________ please make a safe space with in the park for the surrounding community that skateboards thats run by the skaters for the skaters, We need a safe spot skate spot in Hawaii and wish to promote a healthy safe and positive environment for all that skate with in our community.

I really Think Kalihi needs a Skatepark and Hawaii needs an actual safe spot skate spot run by skaters. I aim to keep up with the maintenance of the park and insure that all the needs of the park are met. I hope to create a positive environment and experience for all. I also will be hosting a Skateboarding ministry on sundays open to all walks of life and beliefs. :D

Skateparks are great for every city to have. It keeps kids off the streets ! It's a safe place for all ages.

I truly believe our children should have a safe spot that will keep them safe off the street.
I think this skatepark would do a lot of good for our community here in Kalihi. I would love to see a space built for the skateboarders here. I think this is highly needed in our area.

I agree. As a kalihi resident for almost 20 years, I've Been skating for 10 years. I use to go to skate parks outside of Kalihi once it got too late my friends and I use to find other spots in kalihi to skate... Like the school next to my house.
