Community Petition to Establish Cedar Side Pub at Edible Matters Family & Licensed Restaurant
Edible Matters has received hundreds of requests to establish a licensed neighborhood pub to complement our bakery, catering, take-out, and licensed family restaurant. Residents and customers have informed us as owners and many of our 29 staff-members that Hammonds Plains is a growing community that would be complemented by a nice, reputable, well run neighbourhood pub. Currently, residents of Hammonds Plains have to travel all the way to Tantallon, Bedford, or Halifax to find a neighbourhood pub or bar.
Our neighbourhood pub would have no video lottery terminals, pool tables, or amplified music. It would have hours of operations that are respectful to our patrons and neighbours. The pub would be located in a separate location from our family restaurant, within the same building. Pub patrons would enjoy the same type of made from scratch food for which Edible Matters has become known. To establish a pub first requires the approval of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), then the Province of Nova Scotia. Approval from HRM is achieved through a planning application process. We have retained an experienced planning and development consultant KWR Approvals Inc. (www.kwrapprovals.com) to assist me in working with HRM for the necessary approvals. There will be public and community consultation (i.e. meeting) as part of HRM’s planning process.

I think this would be wonderful, some where nice that you can meet and have a social drink, good food and great atmosphere. Much better than a casino on Hammonds Plains.
I live in bedford and welcome a venue like this without the need to venture downtown. The less noisy environment is a big plus to me.
Very supportive of this development. We live on St George and have seen no adverse impact from the well-patronized restaurant. We would love to see this reputable and responsible business expand.
This is a great spot for a pub! People already travel to get to Edible Matters so would definitely make the trip for a well-run local pub with similar fare to what is offered downstairs! I am really looking forward to visiting!
I would love to see you grow this part of business if you got the go ahead. I trust from what you have build already that you will not only build this part of your business with profit in mind but also your Neighbors.

Since moving here in 1990 I have seen wonderful growth in the business area and it would be wonderful to have a comfortable place to relax with family and friends at a new and classy pub.
