Communication professionals value thoughtful, humanistic and kind words and deeds. Donald Trump’s name calling, bigoted remarks, exaggerations and false accusations offend. His candidacy is an affront to those who believe that language is a tool for healthy conversation and debate. As leaders in written and oral language standards, we believe that Donald J. Trump’s language behavior violates our core values.
Donald Trump's constant use of anger, violent expression, bullying, slurs, and prejudiced personal attacks instead of well-thought out arguments and policy proposals demonstrates not only that he is irrational, ignorant, and unstable but also that he cannot communicate coherent, cohesive thought when necessary.

Our country needs and deserves the highest caliber of leadership; nothing less will do. Mr. Trump's communication is substandard and insidious. He exemplifies all that a leader should not be.

And don't forget the bald-faced lies! It's astonishing to me how he seems to get away with just making things up.

He is an affront to everyone who values intelligent discourse, and an embarrassment for the citizens of this country.

I'm a concerned Canadian colleague. Trump hates NAFTA and that means bye bye to our comm pros being allowed to share our expertise in each other's countries. Trump is radical and divisive. He's a bully who intimidates, shouts until he's heard and targets anyone in his way. It's possible that Trump may have some good ideas (I said "may"), but the way he communicates undermines any value in his message. He embodies and incites hate and anger. His ridiculous animated (tiny) hand and mouth gestures distract from anything he's saying -- but then, I suppose late night talk shows are grateful to him for the fodder to their comedy skits. His communication style would be very ineffective as a statesman, though he'd make a pretty good circus barker. He would certainly not serve or represent the classy and well-spoken Americans I'm proud to call my colleagues and friends.

Mr. Trump is extremely offensive and a threat to basic civility in our society. His rhetoric and scare tactics are eerily similar to the approach that Adolf Hitler used to stir up hate, bigotry, and anti-everything that he didn't like in Germany. He is role modeling the worst of the worst when it comes basic civil discourse. Rather than using free speech to open minds, he is using the power of speech to close minds. I am hoping and praying that our country can rise above such ignorance in the coming election.
