Since the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, the staff of Willie J. Williams has called out several students at the start of each day, for violation of the Dress Code in the student handbook. Students are kept until someone is contacted to bring "proper attire" to the student before they are allowed to return to class. I myself, on the first day of school had to turn around and pick up my daughter who was in tears for being called out for wearing a modest, sleeveless top.
Several parents are irate that the clothing being selected is not immodest in dress. It is a general consensus that we agree while having a Dress Code in place for the student body is needed, it is unfair that it is up to individual staff members and their "interpretation" of the Dress Code as to who is called out, and parents notified.
Therefore, it is our desire that the Colquitt County Board of Education implement a county wide mandatory uniform for all student body, starting in the 2018-2019 school year.
A mandatory uniform policy for the student body is positive for several reasons...
1. There is no respecter of persons based on attire.
2. It is more economical for the majority of students' parents/guardians.
3. Solidarity in attire makes for a more unified and constructed learning environment.
4. The staff and student body will no longer be distracted or take away valuable learning time due to misconduct of current dress code.
Our desire by signing this petition is to support and assist the Colquitt County Board of Education and our students to have a more successful learning environment, now, and for future Colquitt County Students in the years to come.

The momentum behind this petition proves that parents are finished with the inconsistent and unfair enforcement of this biased dress code. The Colquitt County Board of Education can no longer pretend this is just a minor complaint from a few disgruntled families. We are forcing them to face the fact that their arbitrary rules are damaging our children.

I think it would be a great idea . To the fact you really can't buy jeans that don't come with the washed holes already in them . Being this is one of the dress codes. And it would also cut back on children being bullied at school .
I believe this is a great idea. As a mother of a pre k student i worry about my child being bullied in the future. I think uniforms are great because no one can be picked on for what they are wearing because its all the same. I also think maybe fridays could be wear what you want day just so students could express themselves.
Notice that it's daughters being sent home. Boys' educations are clearly far more important to this school system than the education of those young ladies. The sexism and promotion of seeing girls as objects (i.e. being sent home for daring to have actual modestly dressed bodies) only ends badly.
Since kids are getting sent to the office for inappropriate dress, which disrupts the class, makes for more work for the office staff and hinders their parents workday schedule, I feel that a dress code at this time is very appropriate.
As a parent I wish they had uniforms when my children were in school. Too often I could not afford the lastest style of clothes and my children would feel left out. This cuts out a lot of trying to keep with the "Jones".

I am sick of our girls being targeted and pulled out of class because certain teachers fill clothes that are clearly acceptable and by code are not allowed. However our teachers and administration can wear what they want. Our children are missing class time and feeling bullied and self conscious of themselves.
