To restore the original name of Colmar Elementary School. The alumni students and or other interested parties that attended this school, feels that it is part of our history as to a time and era that is part of Bell Gardens corner stone. The name was changed to Ceasar Chavez Elementary School. We feel that this was not a necessary change as per there are many schools & streets to honor Ceasar Chavez. At the time alot of us attended Colmar, Ceasar Chavez was unknown, and really played no part of the foundation or building of the community. It also leaves our school records, without the bearing of the true name of the school so many of us attended. We are proud of our heritage, history and the school countless numbers of us that attended Colmar represent. Since the popular development of reuniting classmates through online websites, many have expressed the dissatisfaction of our school being renamed. We have every right as pillars of the community to petition the restoration of title back to Colmar Elementary School.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the way so many of you have stepped up to reclaim this piece of our history. This momentum belongs entirely to the alumni who refused to let their memories fade away.

Colmar was the first school I attended, I consider Colmar to be the only name it has ever had and will be the only name it will every have. Even throe the original Colmar is part of the High School now. The name change is a slap in the face of all past alumni. It is a total disregard of the history of Bell Gardens.

I also attended Colmar elementary and I never understood why they decided to change the name to Cesar Chavez since he never came to Southern California

As an alumni from Kinder-4th grade, I would love to see this name and mascot back. I was an employee at Colmar, when the change happened, and it sadden me very much. Felt as if my childhood and wonderful memories were taken away. I agree with others, there are many other schools who already recognize him, but I also believe he wasn't as great as many think he was.

I too was saddened to see the school name changed. I feel like it erases our community history and dishonors the original name.

I am an alumni of Colmar Elementary School. I was also a student at the time when Colmar Elementary moved to its new campus at the time, which is currently located on Loveland when Bell Gardens High School expanded to the entire block on Agra Street. I will never forget that time and move. To me it was always Colmar Elementary School. The name should be restored to Colmar Elementary School in Bell Gardens. Whoever or however when the name changed to Cesar Chavez it semed that it was primarily a political and indoctrination change that served no purpose or had nothing to do with the school, other than a politically and activist motivated change against the locsl community and United States of America. For many years as I would travel and return to visit my family in Bell Gardens, the name and association with Cesar Chaves only reminded me of the whole indoctrination and activism, and a corrupted city leadership at that time that has negatively impacted the Bell Gardens community. I hope and pray for the restoration of Colmar Elementary and a renewed focus to rebuild and restore Bell Gardens to the place that I would call home.
