Cold KGVI
Petition for Adequate Heating in KGVI Building Lecture Rooms
We, the undersigned students of Newcastle University, are writing to bring urgent attention to the uncomfortable and unsuitable learning conditions in the KGVI building, particularly in Lecture Theatre 1 (LT1). Over the course of the induction period and during subsequent lectures, we have repeatedly faced extreme cold in LT1, making it difficult to focus and engage in our studies.
In multiple instances, the temperatures inside the room have been noticeably colder than outside, forcing many of us to wear hats, scarves, and additional layers to cope. This is not conducive to a productive learning environment, and it is now impossible to study effectively in these conditions.
Two weeks ago, we raised this concern with our lecturers, who kindly reached out to the university administration on our behalf, requesting that the heating system be turned on. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, no action has been taken, and the issue persists.
We respectfully ask that the university take immediate steps to ensure the temperature in LT1, and other affected areas of the KGVI building, is regulated to provide a comfortable and appropriate learning environment. Adequate heating is essential for students to focus and achieve academic success, and we believe it is the university’s responsibility to maintain this basic standard.
We kindly request prompt action on this matter to prevent further disruption to our education.
Thank you for your attention and understanding.
Sincerely,
MSc1 Students, Language Pathology
On behalf of the students of Newcastle University
