Ok, so everyone has heard about the Cobb County School Board teacher layoffs, and not
thought much of it. But now it's hit close to home, by that I mean that
they laid off Mr. Phillipps, one of the very best teachers at Walton. Out of all the students that took his class, the majortiy of them passed with an 'A' or a 'B'.
The reason for the Board's firing of Mr. Phillipps is based on the length that he has been a teacher at Walton. That is completely unjustified. I had the pleasure of being in his class and I can honestly say I have never retained more knowledge in school than I did in his class, and I know his other former students agree with me.
Another great thing about Mr. Phillipps is how he is actually friendly with his students and that is something that is rare with teachers, at least at Walton. Basically, he's way qualified, a great
teacher, and sure as hell deserves this job!
We, the undersigned, urge the Board to reconsider their firing of Mr. Phillipps. We understand that these types of layoffs are necessary, but firing exceptional teachers, such as Mr. Phillipps, only hurts the student body as a whole.
Mr. Phillipps is the only reason I passed this year. This is so unfair to us.
