This main purpose of this petition is to initiate changes to our coaching staff. It seems as though the opinion of many in the league is that they would like to improve and develop their abilities to continue to advance and drive the team.

Our current Head Coach is Matt Conrad. Matt has been working in China since April and is unsure of when he will be back to the Q.C. area though 6 months is the anticipated amount of time he will be in China. This would potentially put Matt back to coaching in October. Tom Schlue is the current assistant coach and has been assisting to lead practices where he has been able.

We'd like to propose to remove Matt Conrad as the current head coach, propose that Luke Schmidt be voted into the head coach position, & continue with Tom Schlue in the assistant coach position to work in conjunction with Luke to accomplish the duties of the coaching staff. Matt has always displayed a positive team attitude and mentality. This is by no means suggesting Matt should be removed as a league member as he is and has been a valuable team player to the Quad City Rollers organization/league as whole. This proposal seems to allign with the desire for leadership in close proximity for a head coach presence/direction at practice due to the desire to continue to progress team skillls for present/upcoming 2017 games to the end of the season in October/November.

By signing this petition, I agree with the above statements and suggest these changes be set into motion expeditiously to ensure the league achieves the best possible outcome for the 2017 season/continued skater development. A new coach will still need to be voted upon by the league to make the proposed changes official.

The bylaw sections re: the process for recall of senior leadership and the responsibilities of the head coach position are listed below for reference.

16.3. Recall of Board Members and/or Senior Leadership:

16.3.1. A Director and/or Senior Leader may be recalled as such for good cause shown upon a vote by the League Skaters in good standing. Good cause shall include, without limitation, any action detrimental to the Corporation or its league members. A league member may initiate a vote to remove a member of the Board of Directors by submitting a petition which has been endorsed by at least 25% of League Skaters in good standing to the Grievance Committee, who shall in turn cause the petition to be delivered to the Board of Directors after their investigation. Each page of the petition shall set forth the grounds for removal. Upon receipt of a petition conforming to this provision by the Board of Directions, the Board of Directors shall schedule a League meeting within 30 days for the purpose of a recall vote. The Board member or Senior Leader facing removal shall have the opportunity to address the participants before the vote. Upon an affirmative vote by a simple majority of voting league members in good standing, the Board Member or Senior Leader shall be removed from the Board of Directors. 


17.7. Coach/Coaches:

• Automatic member of the Training Committee and predominately responsible for guiding and developing the talent of the team. 

• Trains, develops and mentors the team to become better at the physical and mental components of roller derby 

• Knowledgeable of the most current WFTDA rule set in order to keep the League playing at the appropriate level 

• Will have full voting rights on the League and will not pay monthly dues. 

• Accept and review nominations of team captains and co-captains; assign placement of 
these positions 

• Coach is solely responsible for setting and submitting game rosters to the Interleague Chair and to the team.

• 17.7.1. The Coach(s) will be voted in at the start of the season by the entire league. If there is more than one Coach, a separate vote to determine Head and Assistant Coach. The Coach will sign the league Code of Conduct.
