MTU Daniell Heights Co-Tenant Policy Change
We, residents of Daniell Heights, on- campus apartments of Michigan Technological University, wish to express our difficulties when it comes to fair share of responsibilities between tenants and co-tenants. As the co-tenant is not legally bound by any contract and bears no responsibility toward the Daniell Heights apartment office, many times tenants find themselves in difficult situations resulting from co-tenant misconducts. Examples of such misconducts are: 1- Failure to pay rent share or to pay them on time 2- Vacating without a 30-day vacation notice and without locating a new co-tenant 3- Moving out before end of the month (mid month for example) without locating a new co-tenant 4- Refusal to pay for damages caused by co-tenants Those circumstances usually leave the tenant without any choice other than bear the cost of unpaid rent and/or damages. Therefore, we, residents of Daniell Heights, ask for changes to be made to the apartment policies so that every co-tenant 21 or older also become liable if they were to default on any of the responsibilities stated above, that the lease term be on a semester basis for co-tenants and that both the tenant and co-tenant bear responsibilities for damages of apartment properties at Daniell Heights and finally that a standard co-tenant contract agreement mentioning all the above issues be available at the Daniell Heights Office.
