Petition to Allow Students to Bring their Backpacks to their Last Class of the Day
Overview
Whereas students coming from the Mod, the Quad, and the Music Hallway run the risk of missing the bus if they have to stop at their locker at the end of the day.
The people of Cooper Middle School believe that if a student's last class of the day is in the Mod, the Quad, or the Music Hallway, they should have the option to bring their backpack to class. The privilege is only provided at the discretion of the individual teacher whose classroom was mentioned.
Terms and Conditions
1) If the specified teacher grants this privilege, students must follow their instructions in regards to the usage and placement of backpacks during class.
2) Students will still be held responsible for being to class on time. If a student is late, they will receive an unexcused tardy and possible loss of backpack privileges in the case of repeated offenses.
3) All rules stated in the Fairfax County Student Rights and Responsibilities still apply. No drugs, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, stolen items, or similar articles may be stored in backpacks. School officials may search a student's backpack if they have reasonable evidence. Illegal items under the SR&R will be confiscated and the student will face consequences based upon the SR&R's Levels of Intervention and/or legal consequences.
If a student misuses or abuses this privilege in any way, it will result in disciplinary actions and/or loss of the privilege.
