On behalf of the commuters at Marymount University, we request that Marymount reconsider their decision to open the university at 10am. Considering the fact that "many" not "some" areas have met extreme weather-related conditions including and not limited to icy roads and unpaved streets. Many of us cannot even move our car out of the driveway. Not to mention considering more than half of Marymount's student population is made up by commuters, our concerns and safety should be considered. As a last note, nearly every other school in the area from elementary school to universities like George Mason have already closed taking into everything into consideration. I thank you for your time.
The personal accounts shared here regarding road conditions demonstrate clearly why commuting remains unsafe for so many students today. I am currently reaching out to university administration to ensure they understand the risks inherent in keeping the campus open under these circumstances.
February 14, 2014
The rapid growth of this petition highlights a significant consensus regarding our collective safety. It is clear that the concerns expressed by the commuting community require immediate attention from the university administration.

This is rediculous that you are making people drive in this with this many commuters at this school!

Honestly, this is ridiculous. My neighborhood isn't plowed, I rely on public transit to get to campus, that's all delayed tomorrow, and the roads are going to ice over in the morning. I'm not even able to go tomorrow, which is going to make me miss a quiz that I'm not sure I can even make up. Thanks, Marymount.

The majority of students at MU are commuters and many come from far out. Many of us won't be able to make it to class and this will affect not only the one day of missed classes, but tests and quizes resulting from this missed information. Please reconsider.

My neighborhood has not been plowed yet and I drive a small car so I don't see how I can even get out of my neighborhood tomorrow. Us commuters are the ones who have to risk our lives to go to class, this is unfair.

I live in a hilly area in the heart of Fairfax. Excavating the rest of my car is one obstacle; getting through my own driveway would be another (let alone my street). My case is NOT unique! Please close MU for the sake of the commuters. I don't want to miss my lecture!

This was a poor decision marymount. It is in the best interest for everyone if the institution is declared closed on Feb 14th, 2014.
