We feel it is very important that the safety of our children and faculty is priority during treacherous weather conditions. We believe Bill de Blasio and the Board Of Education feel that money takes precedence over the safety of lives. We know each day a child attends school they receive certain amount of money for each child in attendance daily. I the Petitioner can tell you my experience during treacherous weather conditions:
1: Shortage of Faculty because most of the teachers are from Long Island, Westchester, Rockland County and ETC.
2: My children had to be placed in different classrooms to accommodate the lack of faculty.
3: When put into different classrooms they were taught how to watch Disney Movies. There was no curriculum was set in place during times of this nature because of lack of faculty.
We feel if private NYC schools and NJ schools can close so can the NYC Public schools be closed. Why do we have to wait the last minute to be informed of closings when you know you are not closing them anyway? What will it take for you Mayor de Blasio to have a conscience? Would it take a horrible tragedy? Please do the right thing for your city. We voted for you thinking that you would not be a carbon copy of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. We understand we might not all the times see eye to eye on situations however; we feel you should have had our children’s best interest taken into account. Hopefully in the future when treacherous weather affects us your conscience will make the right decision for our children’s safety.

THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE AND IT SHOWS THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS TOTALLY FED UP WITH THE CURRENT SYSTEM!! WE ARE BUILDING SO MUCH ENERGY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE EVERYONE RECOGNIZES THAT STUDENT SAFETY MUST COME FIRST!!

I agree with everything what Kelly said 100% !! Schools shouldn't be open during the bad time but in the mean while he is telling everyone to stay indoors and not to go outside. Why should there be school for young kids while you are safe indoors. While these kids including my son riding the school bus to school they are in such a high risk of danger meanwhile your saying we should all stay inside!
AMEM to that! Especially children having to go to school during this kind of weather. Rather on the bus or walking they can get hurt! Do not advise people to stay indoors and off the roads but you have teachers and school buses on the roads! Just curious what your going to do for the next winter storm!
Me as a mother and grandmother would not like to have my children out in treacherous conditions and gladly sign this petition.

Stop worrying about what working parents will do with their children if schools are closed and worry about the safety and well-being of ALL children. I am sick and tired of hearing the same excuse over and over again. I do not want my child to be the one who gets injured or is killed due to the fact someone doesn't know what to do with their child. Do yourself a favor Mayor, after your televised press conference, sit back and replay and watch carefully how hypocritacal you are when you say things such as, stay home, don't go out, very dangerous, things are closed or canceled because it is just not safe and so on and so on. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
