Close Cortland Elementary Until Deemed Safe
We the undersigned demand that District 428 closes Cortland Elementary School until 1: Proper testing equipment for all landfill gasses is in place inside and outside the school and such equipment is monitored on a continuous basis. 2: All such equipment is set to provide proper warning and protection for children. 3: Prevention, response and notification plans are approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the school is deemed safe by a third party.
The events that took place early last week, both Monday and Tuesday at Cortland Elementary has sparked fear among parents that the children have been exposed to toxins for a long time. There are many accounts of children having migraines, being extremely fatigued and feeling nausea for some time now without any explanation. In the past years parents have had their child and/or childrenundergo medical testing to try to finddiagnosis for the symptoms with no conclusive results. Last week’s event has the parents of Cortland Elementaryseeking answers. With even theslightest chance or possibility that something can be lingering in the school is not worth risking a chance on taking one life of a child. Common sense and research tells us this school should have NEVER been built a 1/4 mile away from the landfill.Scientific studies and past testing at the school has proven there are dangerous levels of toxins inside and outside the building. The monitor installed currently in the school has been deemed ineffective and not sufficient for such a large school.
