Decision Makers: San Bernardino City Unified School District

We are asking Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California, to remove the rats on campus now and make sure they do not come back. Students should be able to learn in a clean, safe school, and right now that is not the case.

For six months, rats have been present at the school. That is long enough for a small problem to grow into a much bigger one. They are no longer just passing through; they are staying, and now they are starting to have babies. When rats are left alone in a school, the problem only spreads. It becomes harder to control, harder to clean up, and more upsetting for everyone who has to be there every day.

This is not something students should have to accept.

A school should be a place where people can focus on classes, not worry about rats moving around the campus. Rodents can contaminate food, damage buildings, and make a school feel unsafe and neglected. When a problem like this is ignored, it affects the whole community and sends the wrong message about basic care and cleanliness. There are over thirty five diseases that rats can carry, and they can be passed by indirect contact. If a rat chews on a wire, the school can go up in flames.

We are calling on Cajon High School to act quickly, take the problem seriously, and remove the rats from the campus. We also ask for strong follow-up steps so the school stays clean and safe after the rats are gone. The students, staff, and families connected to Cajon High deserve a school environment that is healthy, respectful, and properly maintained.

Following violations are being broken:

  • Williams Settlement Legislation
  • Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA)
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Health Hazard
  • Healthy Schools Act
  • Local Health Enforcement

By signing this petition, you agree that Cajon should shut down the school, and transfer to online school white the rat infestation is being fixed.

I'm going to print out flyer, and I will put it around the school, I am also thinking about emailing the link to students and teachers. I'm not scared of getting in trouble, I'm scared about others and my health.

I want to learn in a cleaner and safer environment. Most students shouldn't learn in a building with potential diseases that threaten us.

I find it funny how when a restaurant had rats they get shut down but when I school had rats all they put is rat traps. I seen one in the kitchen and even though they don't cook the food, the open pizza boxes form lunch today attracts rats. Don't hit the rats though with rat traps and glue traps, call someone who can take the rats without hurting them and bring them somewhere else. I seen a rat last year in a glue trap as it tried to pull away, that's a painful way to die, starving

Students should learn in a clean environment, our school is near a hillside so critters and bugs are ONLY natural especially since we are such a large school with food and students who litter it's a goldmine. I do think regardless of that Cajon shouldn't have dead rats lying around or in the ceilings. They can't get rid of the rats entirely or forever that's kind of silly to believe but they can sure as hell clean up the rats and make it more hygienic even with the rats.

Because this is clearly distracting students from learning, and students should be able to learn in a safe environment.

Students shouldn't have to be anxious about rats coming in classrooms. This is unacceptable how the school isn't doing NOTHING. if they shut this down, it just proves that the school will try to promote that this is a " perfect, safe community " when it clearly isn't. Rats can be a huge fucking problem if not treated soon enough. Please stay safe yall.
