I honestly cannot believe the council finally agreed to overhaul the trash pickup schedule and honestly it feels like a dream to walk outside without seeing bags everywhere. It really shows that even when things feel messy and hopeless we can actually get somewhere if we just keep bothering them …

Final supporters
If you want to walk down the street without having to climb of a garbage bag, sign up, if you want to not live in a landfill environment sign up, if you are happy smelling food waste through out the week and live in unhygienic public streets don't sign up.
This petition will be presented at the next council meeting to show the ill feeling we as residents are feeling.
at the very least by showing our feeling, should they be ignored we will then know that the council do not have our interests and feeling at the top of their agenda.

Seeing all these signatures makes me feel like I am finally hearing echoes of my own frustration in the streets. I keep thinking about all the times I stepped over those bags and wondered if anyone else noticed but now it feels like we are actually building something real toward getting the council to listen.

I just want to live like a civilized human being. I'm not asking for much. 25 years ago, Swieqi was a beautiful safe and clean place to live in. Now, thanks to the greed of developers and those buying property just to let it out to AirBnb, it's become one disgusting nightmare ! If the government really is a government that listens, then I suggest it acts as well !!
The black bags need to be collected daily. Cant walk around with toddler. Heath hazard! I have already seen rats running around.
We need to increase the days of the black bag collection! Triq il qasam is a nightmare with the stench and the amount of bags on the pavement...impossible to walk with a pushchair and have he baby so close to the dirt.
It only takes a bit of common sense to see that the current rubbish collection system in Swieqi isn't working and should revert to at least black bag daily. Building contractors should also be made to clean up their debris and packing material daily instead of leaving it in a heap until the end of the week.
I think that there are far too many temporary residents in Swieqi for a reduction in black bag collection days to be practical. Also one must keep in mind that there are lots of residents here who have babies and for whom this system is bringing unnecessary hardship.
The new garbage collection system cannot work in Swieqi (especially with all the rented properties ) , unless bins or skips are provided in every street.
Rubbish is left outside permanently and in spite of notices , boxes and rubbish left by delivery companies to the forum are being left outside and not cleared quick enough so we are climbing over rubbish.

Urgent action needed before our locality will become rat infested! Costs council is trying to save will certainly be offset by pest control costs!
