Final supporters
We, the undersigned, want a clean, safe, maintained playground on Hutchinson St, which is used by many local families and tourists. We call on Coober Pedy Council to:
Address the current state of the playground and amend current procedures to remedy the issues experiences by residents such as exampled below
- Litter
- Drug paraphernalia
- Glass bottles
- Broken glass
- Cigarette butts
- Cans
- Dog excrement
- Bird excrement
- Ash from fires
- Broken equipment
- Broken gates
- Broken toilets
The playground provides a shaded place for families to spend time together, socialise and keep fit. The council’s own website states Children and Parenting (CaPS) Supports early intervention and prevention services and resources that are aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing and supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role. The service has a primary focus on children aged 0-12 but may include children up to the age of 18. The playground is a key way that families can keep fit, meet neighbours and build positive relationships, it also shows the council are committed to the mantra of improving development and wellbeing of children whilst supporting parents.

I am currently compiling a formal report of the safety hazards identified in the comments to present during the upcoming council session. Council representatives have acknowledged receipt of the petition and I am waiting for confirmation of a briefing time.

The volume of support has reached a level that requires a formal response from the local council. I am currently finalizing a briefing document to present the list of safety concerns to the relevant department heads this week.

For years I have sent photos and pointed out the dangers of this poorly maintained playground, all to no avail. In the past, I have myself cleaned up caltrops and put up a sign warning families to make sure children wear shoes.
Glass broken all over the play ground & there is always people drinking. School holidays are approaching soon. But besides that, it shouldn't be in the condition it is
The playground is a disgrace with homeless people living there. The issues around this needs to be addressed.
It's disgusting and extremely disappointing that a children's area is not being looked after or kepted clean. It's asl appalling as it's the first stop point for families coming into the town.
I will add to this to pressure wash the equipment. I'm tired of hearing my daughter ask if we can go to the playground this week, has it been cleaned yet mum?
Please fix the BBQ as well
Yes I would love to see the play ground updated fixed and kept clean for the sake of our children and for the locals spending time with Thier friends and familys and it is a good place for the tourist as well

The DCCP should attach metal mesh to both sides of the Tyre's to stop them being used as a toilet.
