The feedback from local legislators has been enlightening as they grapple with the friction between historical fire codes and modern security needs. I am currently drafting a formal proposal for the State Fire Marshal to demonstrate how safety can be improved without compromising our emergency evacuation standards.

My kids r in school all day and I worry constantly about this. We need to be able to lock them in if something happens. Common sense needs to win out.
This is a no brainer. Why is this even a question? Protect the students first.
Stupid fire codes that put kids at risk. The world has changed and the rules need to change with it.
Whatever keeps the bad guys out. My wife is a teacher and she feels way too exposed right now.
YES. Keep the doors locked. Nobody should be able to reach in and open a classroom door from the hallway.

Update the laws already!! We are tired of waiting for officials to do the right thing while our schools are sitting ducks.
