Collecting Signatures to Increase CJAM's Student Levy
CJAM 99.1 FM, the not-for-profit campus and community radio station located on the University of Windsor campus, is asking for your support, University of Windsor undergraduate students! This increased fee will enable our station to provide more resources for our volunteers, be it updated equipment, creating new roles, and better servicing our existing operations.
CJAM possesses one of Ontario's lowest levy fees in the campus community radio sector. We have not received an increase in its student levy funding since 1980.
CJAM celebrated last year its 40th anniversary on the FM dial. We have a rich history on the University of Windsor campus, extending back to being a Music Appreciation Society in the 1940s when UWindsor was Assumption College. We provide a place where students interested in broadcasting and audio producing can cut their teeth in radio production. Radio journalist Anna Maria Tremonti, Toronto Maple Leafs announcer Joe Bowen, and late media producer and advocate of the Somali-Canadian community Hodan Nalayeh are three notable alumni of our radio station.
We are an excellent experiential learning resource for students to become proficient in broadcasting, journalism, and media. We champion being a hub as an education and community resource; we will use these extra dollars to help reach our goals and to better serve the University of Windsor, and Windsor-Detroit, communities.
